This course is designed to examine both theory and methodology in the scientific investigation of psychological knowledge for theory and application. Different research designs and methods are explored at the graduate level, with a focus on issues pertaining to consuming clinical literature.  Reliability and validity issues will be explored regarding different research designs (quantitative, qualitative, and single subject designs), as well as different methods of measurement.  Literature review skills with an emphasis on the integration and synthesis of findings appropriate to being an active empirically based practitioner. The importance and effects of diversity issues in research, and ethical issues in research are also covered.  The course emphasizes the development of critical thinking skills and the methodological tools necessary for functioning as a scientifically minded clinician.
